A much improved and far more comfortable Garbage came to town for a two night
stint at the Palladium. After spending time touring in support of their first
album by being the opening act for such bands as The Smashing Pumpkins,
Garbage took advantage of being the headliner with surprising grace. Lead by the always sexy Shirley Manson (who has the warmest hug in the world...but I won't go there), Garbage served up faithful versions of the hits that made them stars such as Stupid Girl, Only Happy When It Rains, Push It and others, and a few of the lesser known songs that the crowd seemed to enjoy. The most impressive aspect of the show was Shirley Manson's vocals. Proving she's not just a studio woman, Shirley belted out the hard and fast one's when needed (Hammering In My Head), and melted the coldest hearts with ease (You Look So Fine, #1 Crush). Pacing the stage, at times she looked the part of a ferocious caged animal, but when called upon Shirley seemed like the woman you could take home to meet the family. Not to be outdone, Butch Vig (drums), Duke Erikson (guitars and keyboards) and Steve Marker (guitars and keyboards) easily handled the transition from the comfort of their SMART STUDIOS in Madison, Wisconsin to the rigors of the road. Tight and in control of their music, "The Guys" dazzled the Palladium with rockin' beats and clean, fast guitar work backed up with groovy vibes from the synths. Crowd pleasers from start to finish, Garbage have definitely shaped up to be one of the best music has to offer. |
