Andy on How he got his first Baritone

Andy - Uh..the first baritone I got?

TLA - Yea.

Andy- Uh, I saw an ad in the paper, I was reading Town one day, and I was looking for one of those,. . . well, actually, the day before I went to LA; went to some stores, pawnshops, couldn't find anything. So I was reading Town, and a, there was an ad in the paper, they had one for sale, so I just ordered the first one there, caught the lady in her bathrobe, and a. . she said it really was my husbands', he passed away a couple years ago, so you wanna come check it out, it's a whole new one. And I opened the bag, and like, my mouth about hit the floor, I couldn't believe what was in there, and a . . what she wanted for it. She wanted two grand for it or something, and I had another horn I wanted to trade her, and a five hundred bucks, and she says, well I gotta get it traded now, I can't have five hundred bucks instead of a horn, which is how much I'll give you, I was just, Ah, I wanted the horn! She said good, okay. You gotta promise me you won't sell it. I said okay, you got it man, so she gives me five hundred bucks.

Andy on How he got into BBVD

Andy - Um, that's from the initial lineup, um, originally Scott, and Kirk, and Dirk, were already playing together and then they called me. I got the call and so I was part of the original core of the group. And so, since the initial inception, and since the trio, I was right there.

Andy on BBVD's influence on the SWING SCENE

Andy - We were playing stuff that no one else was playing and we had no idea that there was anything going on . . , well there wasn't really anything going on, we just wanted to kinda play our stuff. And scouts write some pretty cool tunes and give them to us and the rest of the band, and we come down with some groove in that thing, and uh, we had no idea, we just here to just have fun and make music and we what's jammin , we start getting gigs, you know, down in LA or Adventure Isle, you know, and people start diggin it, and then we went down to LA, and started seein' that scene which is sweet.

Andy on The Swing Scene

Andy - Yea, we didn't know there was a trend really, we were just doin' it and dressing up, and tryin' to make some fly sounds with music really and doin stuff that people, you know, anyone can come out and see. So that was about the only underground thing that was going on, before the movie came out. It floated and kinda like legitimized everything that was happening, you know, it wasn't just like a trend, or an underground thing ,a couple of your cute friends are going out and doin your cute little hobby, you know, it's like a legitimate thing.

Andy on The Movie Swingers

Andy - Um, that was filmed, actually, the guy who wrote it was a regular at the Derby, every Wednesday he'd come. And he showed up one night, was writing a movie, had wrote a movie he hadn't seen, and he wanted use us in it. And, so, we checked out the script, and were like wow, and a , he filmed it at the Derby on a Wednesday night, which is a regular night for us. So we filmed all day, and played our three sets at night, which is just where he filmed some more of that live stuff on the scene. And when we were done we told him no more, we'd had a whole day of it. And then we didn't see anything, no screen cuts, or anything until the premiere. We just got an invitation, showed up to the theater were blown away by how cool it was.

Andy on Recognition

Andy - Uh, a little bit. Startin' to have it more now than ever before, but for the most part, when we get out of our suits, I mean, Scotts the real one, I think he and Dirk pry get the most recognition. But for me, it's just like, I can go out, change my clothes, and I can see people that I've seen at the show and they have no idea who I am. It's still kinda cool, you know, I can like cruise around and like laugh and laugh, you know, it's just a deal that happens, you know. I don't know.
